Our school is dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive learning environment that fosters the academic, social, and emotional growth of our students.
Our Foundation program is designed to help young learners develop a love for learning and a strong foundation in literacy, numeracy, and inquiry-based learning. We focus on providing hands-on experiences and opportunities for our students to explore and discover the world around them.
The Foundation curriculum focuses on building a strong foundation in literacy, numeracy, and social skills. Students are taught language and communication in English, basic maths including problem solving, explore the world around them in Science and Humanities and develop healthy habits in Health and Physical Education. At Sorrento Primary School, we follow the Victorian Curriculum, and our passionate teachers deliver a well-rounded education preparing students for life beyond the classroom.
Sorrento Primary's Coastal School program for Foundation students offers a unique and enriching educational experience that embraces the beauty and resources of our coastal surroundings. This innovative program aims to foster a sense of stewardship and respect for the environment, while nurturing essential skills through hands-on learning and exploration. Our youngest learners engage in a variety of activities, such as beach cleanups, marine life studies, and nature walks, all designed to deepen their understanding of the natural world and its delicate ecosystems. By participating in the Coastal School program, Sorrento Primary's Foundation students develop a strong foundation in environmental awareness, preparing them to become responsible and compassionate global citizens.
Our buddy program is designed to help new students settle in and make them feel comfortable in their new surroundings. Senior students are assigned to a junior “buddy” and become their mentor and friend. They introduce them to other classmates, show them around the school, and help them adjust to the school routine.
From Foundation, students enjoy our digital technology curriculum, equipping students with essential skills for the digital age, nurturing creativity and problem-solving abilities.
The nature playspace, exclusively for our Foundation students, features thoughtfully designed areas that inspire creativity, curiosity, and a sense of wonder. By incorporating natural materials, such as logs, rocks, and sand, we create opportunities for hands-on, sensory-rich experiences that nurture the development of essential life skills. In this setting, our youngest learners can truly flourish and develop a lifelong appreciation for the beauty and importance of nature.
