Meet our Staff

Sorrento PS is a fantastic school to work at and my children loved every minute of their primary school years at Sorrento.

As each year draws to a close I receive cards and letters from families thanking me for being part of their child’s first year at school. I am often brought to tears by the generous and heartfelt words. The families of SPS make me feel valued and appreciated!

I truly appreciate the beauty of our natural environment and the accessibility to such an extensive variety of work and lifestyle opportunities. We are fortunate to live, work and play in such a tranquil, vibrant and aesthetically beautiful community underpinned by strong values. The Peninsula is geographically special but it is the spirit that nurtures the values of caring for family, friends, community and world that enhance its innate beauty.

My young family and I enjoy exploring Sea Winds and its gardens and spotting the kangaroos. I truly believe that the Mornington Peninsula is the perfect place to raise a young family and I will forever be grateful to call this place my home.

Sorrento PS has cultivated the compassionate side of students by creating a school culture in which kindness is valued and practiced. This culture of kindness is instilled in the students learning and strengthened through some wonderful programs and initiatives that the school and community offer.

We are so lucky to have such wonderful learning spaces at our school. Collaborative spaces such as the Cove, outside learning spaces, multiple sandpits, two beautiful playgrounds, a massive oval and the pool!

One fine autumn day in 2006 I was applying for a short term contract teaching Art. The first moment that I walked through the gates of Sorrento Primary School, I knew I was somewhere special. I just had a feeling that this place was going to change my life.

During my time as a leader at Sorrento Primary School, there has always been a central focus on student wellbeing. Casting my mind back to my first year of teaching, I recall a mentor teacher simply stating that; ‘if kids are happy and feel safe; they’re connected to school and are ready to learn.’

From this adage I learned the importance of schools promoting a culture and facilitating programs that aim towards students feeling safe, supported and happy.

Seeing the students’ social and emotional skills develop over the years has been truly rewarding. Their understanding of themselves and others gives me confidence in saying that the world is in good hands when these students step out of Sorrento Primary School and move onto their next chapter.

A strong sense of community is one of the many reasons why I love to work at Sorrento Primary School. Laughing with staff members and students, whilst also being part of a school where we strive to be our best, is something very special and unique.

It’s awesome to be able to offer the students so many activities that give them the opportunities to connect with their local environment and community. I also love the staff culture at the school. Once you’re here, you don’t want to leave, it feels like a big family.

I love meeting up with ex-students, usually in our community, at their part time jobs. Some ex-students now have children of their own at school, which is both humbling and mind blowing! Sorrento staff have a great dedication to student learning, are talented and fun. It’s a privilege teaching at Sorrento Primary School.

This school has not only given my sons a sound base to continue with further education, it has also given me the opportunity to arrive every morning to see all the students coming and ready to learn…and all I can think of is how happy it makes me being able to take part in their lives. My goal is to hopefully to be able to show something valuable to them and to inspire them to become people that want to do better and to reach further. Wouldn’t that be something.
