In grades 1 and 2, our students continue to build on the skills they developed in the foundation years. Our curriculum is designed to challenge students and encourage them to achieve their full potential.
The English curriculum emphasises reading, writing, and communication skills, while Mathematics emphasises problem-solving, reasoning, and fluency. Science encourages exploration and discovery of the natural world, and Humanities teaches social and cultural understanding. The curriculum develops personal, social, and physical skills, including wellness education.
From year 1, students enjoy our Outdoor Education program, where they engage in outdoor activities, nature walks, and learn about local flora and fauna. This porgram, following on from our Coastal School, fosters a love for the environment and encourages curiosity about the natural world.
The Buddy Reading Program pairs Year 1 & 2 students with older students for reading sessions, promoting literacy skills, fostering friendships across year levels, and creating a sense of community within the school.
I love our pool. It is warm. I like to learn about swimming. I can put my face in the water. We are lucky to have a pool.

I like my teacher because she is helpful and is kind and calm. She helps me when I am stuck with my maths. She lets us do free writing.
- Monty, Yr1
I like Art because I can make up my own things. Ms. B. lets us do special things, for example you can make a person out of craft.
- Mieke, Yr1
The playground has improved since I came here. The SPS playground has rubber matting underneath it so the Foundation to Year 2 students don’t get hurt.

This all starts when I went fishing one day at school. I went fishing with Michael, Michael loves fishing and volunteers at our school. It was so fun, but we had to use a tennis ball for fishing! So what we did was, we made our fishing rods, then we walked out to the prep area and then we took turns of throwing the fishing rod.
- Cassidy, Yr2
I like that I get to read to the dog during Story Dog time and how good the dog is as he listens. A lady brings the dog to the school.
- Will, Yr2
I have lots of places to get fit and play sport. I play on the oval. I feel lucky.
